Scriptures to Stand On

Ezekiel 22:30 — "I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one."

God is actively looking for intercessors. When you pray for others, you answer this divine search. You become the person standing in the gap, pleading for mercy and breakthrough on someone else's behalf.

1 Timothy 2:1 — "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people."

In His final hours before the cross, Jesus prayed for His followers and for future believers. This shows us that intercession was important enough to occupy Christ's final moments with His disciples.

Job 42:10 — "After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before."

There's a beautiful principle here: Job's breakthrough came when he shifted from focusing on his own pain to interceding for others. Sometimes our own healing is connected to praying for those around us.

Colossians 1:9-10 — "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives."

Create an intercession list. Write down the names of people you feel called to pray for regularly. Keep this list somewhere visible—in your Bible, on your phone, or posted where you'll see it each morning. Having a list prevents you from forgetting and helps you track God's faithfulness over time.

Assign different people to different days. If your list is long, designate certain days for certain people or needs. Monday might be for family, Tuesday for friends, Wednesday for your church leadership, and so on. This keeps intercession manageable without becoming overwhelming.

Set a daily appointment with God. Choose a specific time for intercessory prayer. Many find early morning works best, before the day's demands crowd out prayer time. Others prefer evening hours when they can reflect on the day. Find what works for you and protect that time.
