Choosing Joy in Difficult Seasons - Daily Devotional

Joy is not the absence of problems—it's the presence of God in the midst of them. The apostle Paul wrote some of his most joy-filled letters from prison. Habakkuk declared he would rejoice in the Lord even if the fig tree didn't blossom and there were no grapes on the vines. These believers understood that joy is a choice, not a feeling dependent on circumstances. Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that "the joy of the Lord is your strength." This joy isn't manufactured happiness or denial of real problems. It's a deep-seated confidence that God is good, God is in control, and God's love for you never changes. When life gets difficult, you can choose to focus on what's wrong or on Who is right. Today, ask God to help you see His goodness even in challenging circumstances.
