He's Closest When You're Breaking - Daily Devotional
[HOOK] Some nights, the weight of grief or disappointment feels so heavy that breathing becomes an effort. You wonder if anyone truly sees the cracks forming beneath your smile. In those moments when your heart feels shattered beyond repair, you need to know something profound about God's presence. [REFLECTION] There's a beautiful paradox in how God operates. While we often feel most abandoned in our deepest pain, Scripture reveals the opposite is true—He draws nearer. The Hebrew word for 'close' here suggests intimate presence, like a parent pulling their hurting child onto their lap. God doesn't stand at a distance when you're falling apart. He moves toward you. Think about what breaks your heart: the diagnosis, the betrayal, the loss, the dream that died. God isn't uncomfortable with your tears or impatient with your questions. He's not waiting for you to clean yourself up before He'll come close. Your brokenness actually becomes a meeting place with Him. The crushed spirit isn't a barrier to God—it's a doorway. When life strips away our self-sufficiency, we discover His sufficiency was there all along. Your pain hasn't pushed God away. It has positioned you exactly where He loves to meet His children: in the place of desperate need. [STEPS] 1. Today, speak your pain honestly to God instead of hiding it or minimizing it 2. Write down one way you've experienced God's nearness during a difficult season in the past 3. Reach out to someone else who may be hurting and simply let them know they're not alone [PRAYER] Father, thank You for not abandoning me in my pain. When my heart feels crushed, remind me that You are drawing close, not pulling away. Help me sense Your presence in my brokenness today. Give me the courage to bring my real hurt to You, trusting that You save those with crushed spirits. Amen. [CLOSE] What would change in your heart today if you truly believed God moves toward you in your pain rather than away from it?
