When You Can't See What's Ahead - Daily Devotional

[HOOK] Have you ever stood at a crossroads, unsure which direction to turn? Maybe you're facing a decision right now that keeps you awake at night. The future feels foggy, and you desperately wish someone would just show you the way. [REFLECTION] Here's something beautiful about the image David paints in this psalm: the lamp doesn't illuminate the entire journey—just the next step. In ancient times, travelers carried small oil lamps that cast light only a few feet ahead. They couldn't see their destination, but they could see enough to keep walking safely. God's Word works the same way in our lives. We often want a floodlight that reveals our entire future—the job we'll have in five years, whether this relationship will work out, how our children will turn out. But God offers something better: faithful guidance, one step at a time. This isn't because God wants to keep us in suspense. It's because He wants us close. When we can only see one step ahead, we stay dependent on Him. We return to His Word daily. We learn to trust His heart when we can't trace His hand. Whatever uncertain path you're walking today, His Word has light enough for your next step. And that's all you need right now. [STEPS] 1. Read one chapter of Proverbs today and write down one piece of wisdom that applies to your current situation 2. Before making your next decision, pause and ask: What does Scripture say about this? 3. Share a Bible verse that has guided you with someone who seems to be struggling [PRAYER] Father, I confess that I often want to see the whole road before I start walking. Teach me to trust Your Word as my daily guide. When the path ahead seems dark, remind me that Your light is enough for this moment. Help me take the next step in faith. Amen. [CLOSE] What step have you been hesitant to take because you can't see the whole journey?
