The Gift of Today - Daily Devotional

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift—that's why it's called the present. This simple truth contains profound spiritual wisdom that Jesus Himself taught us in the Sermon on the Mount. When He said, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:34), He wasn't suggesting we shouldn't plan or prepare for the future. Rather, He was teaching us not to let anxiety about tomorrow rob us of the grace available for today. Each morning, God provides fresh mercies for the day ahead (Lamentations 3:22-23). His grace is sufficient for today's challenges, His strength is available for today's tasks, and His peace is accessible for today's anxieties. When we spend our mental and emotional energy worrying about what might happen tomorrow, next week, or next year, we miss the opportunities, blessings, and lessons God has placed in our path today. Living in the present doesn't mean being irresponsible about the future—it means trusting God with tomorrow while being fully engaged with today. It means noticing the small blessings around us: a child's laughter, a friend's kindness, a beautiful sunset, or a moment of quiet prayer. Today is the day to love deeply, serve faithfully, forgive freely, and trust completely. Tomorrow will have its own grace when it arrives.
